Nice to meet you.
Alisha Bynum, MSOM, L.Ac. is a seasoned acupuncturist and herbalist specializing in pain relief, women’s health, and emotional wellness. After graduating at the top of her class in Graphic Design at Montana State University, she advanced from designer to creative director within a few short years. After 10 years in marketing and design she was inspired to pursue acupuncture.
Alisha graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College in 2013 with a Master’s of Oriental Medicine. This program was comprised of over 3,000 hours of classroom study along with over 1,100 hours of clinical training. She is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Formally the secretary, she is now Vice President of the Wyoming Acupuncture Society which has been key to passing state regulatory law and perpetuating the practice of acupuncture throughout Wyoming.
A Wyoming native, Alisha has lived in Montana, Colorado, Texas and traveled the globe including Central America, Canada, and Europe. But she always returned home, finding she couldn’t shake her unbridled love of the Wyoming life and landscape, as well as the hard-working, down-to-earth folks that live here.
When a close friend in her hometown became ill, the lack of palliative and natural health care resources was apparent. After the loss of her friend, she was inspired to pursue the healing arts versus fine art. She left her previous career in 2010 and started her acupuncture education. This synergy between creativity and care is what makes Alisha unique. She uses the communication and problem solving skills learned in advertising and business development to serve her patients compassionately, concisely and creatively. Her goal is to create genuine and positive changes in her patients lives.
Alisha likes to spend as much time as possible on Wyoming’s back roads – exploring and meeting folks. She likes to fly fish, hike, ride horses, and paddle board – anything that gets her outside. She travels extensively but always makes it home to Wyoming.

Unlike traditional needles which are hollow and barbed, acupuncture needles are thin and filiform causing little or no sensation upon insertion. Often patients will not even know that a needle has been placed. Each need is sealed, sterile and for single use only.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of medicine that can be used in conjunction with conventional practices. It is especially effective for functional disorders. Functional disorders are when the body is out of balance but western standards have no specific treatment or the treatment is ineffective. This can often leave the patient with little or no choices to improve their quality of life. Acupuncture looks at your overall health and treats you holistically. We take into account habits, diet and history. This method can lead to fast and successful results in an average of 6-8 weeks for the cost of an average monthly grocery bill.

The average course of treatment is 6-8 appointments, over a duration of 2-3 months.
Fertility and autoimmune cases may require more care.

In simple terms, acupuncture uses a set of specific points around the body that when needled increase blood flow and decrease inflammation. Acupuncture also interacts with the central nervous system, immune system and the HP axis of the brain, which controls endorphins, neurotransmitters and hormones. From a methodology standpoint, Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture look to treat the root of your health problem, not just the symptoms. This leads to long term results.
-
Traditional Chinese Medicine uses various plants and their natural medicinal properties, much like your grandmother would drink mint tea for indigestion or give you honey for a sore throat. Each herb has a chemical makeup and like modern pharmaceuticals they can reduce inflammation, balance hormones and can be anti-bacterial. The difference between herbs and pharmaceuticals is that when used together Chinese herbs work synergistically, balancing each others actions and therefor producing little to no harmful side effects. A specific formula might include 3 to 30 different ingredients such as roots, bark, twigs, dried leaves, seeds and flowers. At home, the formulas can be taken in pre-made pill form or in granular form, where you mix with water and drink like a tea.

Herbs are a very cost effective way to prolong your treatments. They are designed with the same intention of your acupuncture treatment. When consumed, it helps your body to remember the healthy dynamic that we are trying to establish.
-
Medicinal herbs treat many or all of the same conditions that acupuncture treats.
For some conditions they can be more effective than acupuncture as they can be taken daily and act on the gut and immune system.

On your first visit to Sweet Grass Acupuncture & Wellness we will spend time going over your complete health history.
An initial treatment is 75 minutes long, with each follow up appointment lasting 55 minutes. After a full evaluation of your health, we will discuss a treatment plan. This plan will outline recommendations for acupuncture, herbs, diet, and lifestyle that will help you achieve your health goals.
Please bring any medical tests that you have had done recently. Also, a list of your medications and supplements that you take is helpful.
For fertility treatments please feel free to bring your spouse or partner to your first meeting. Basal body temperature charts as well as hormone and blood panels are very helpful.
If you need for your medical charts to be faxed from your doctor you may fax to 888-405-4501.
To help us serve you most efficiently, please fill out your intake forms completely prior to your appointment. This will allow us to have adequate time to discuss your health at length.
